SEIU Local 3 calls on its members and supporters to support the unionization effort at MGB:
Starting on May 31, 2,500 residents and fellows at Mass General Brigham will begin voting in their NLRB election to gain recognition of their union with the CIR/SEIU. ,“MGB is the biggest health system in Massachusetts and the largest employer in this state. My colleagues and I believe that just as MGB is a leader in scientific advancements and state-of-the-art therapies, the hospital system should be a leader in championing the rights and agency of its workers who take care of this city,” said Dr. Max Jordan Nguemeni.
Since the residents and fellows first went public with their campaign, MGB has waged an aggressive union-busting campaign by holding “captive audience” meetings during work hours, calling staff in for 1:1s, and spreading misinformation about what it means to form a union. Despite their employer’s efforts to dissuade them, MGB residents and fellows are ready to move forward and win their union.
“We believe that a better healthcare system is possible,” said Dr. Hannah Abrams. “ As one of the largest residency programs on the East Coast, we believe that MGB has the opportunity to help transform residency throughout the region, and that all starts by listening to the people who care for our patients.”
